Photographer Astrid Kirchherr met The Beatles in Hamburg when they were a struggling band, without a record contract, playing seedy clubs on the Reeperbahn. Four years later, the and was at the centre of the worldwide phenomenon of Beatlemania. As The Beatles prepared to star in their first feature film, A Hard Day’s Night, Astrid and fellow photographer, Max Scheler travelled to London and Liverpool to meet them.

s close friendship with the group allowed for unrivalled access and a collection of warm, intimate photographs, rarely seen before. They capture the Fab Gour in private moments during filming, as well as very public moments when confronted with their own fame - on set with director Richard Lester, signing autographs for screaming girls, quietly strumming guitars or trying to find some down-time for a quiet cup of tea.
