‘The witches are gone, vanished’….but only some ten or twelve years ago, when Jane Smart, Alexandra Spofford and Susie Rougemont went their separate ways out of Eastwick, Rhodesia Island. The events ‘gropingly and even reluctantly related here’ took place when these three were forming a coven, and the Lenox mansion - a great abandoned house on an island in the estuary - was bought by a man whom they recognized as their master.
