When the Endeavour sailed up the east coast of Australia in 1770, it left its mark in stories. Diaries and journals tried to make sense of what was seen, maps were drawn, places were given European names.

But there's another side to this tale, missing until now. As James Cook scanned the coast, people were looking back. What did they make of this strange shape passing by? The sites Cook "discovered' had peoples, names and stories stretching back before time.

First Nations accounts of the Endeavour have been handed down in local communities through the generations. Darren Rix and Craig

Cormick travelled the east coast to record them, including what these communities want all Australians to know about Cooks voyage. For although the Endeavour sailed on, the empire it represented impacted lives and lands immeasurably in the years after.

In placing these stories alongside the European accounts, Warra Warra Wai presents a new foundational document of the nation.
