In the small town of Virgin River, there are few places to run from the truth, and even fewer to hide from those you love. 

In the space of a few months Vanessa Rutledge buried her husband and first love, Matt, and gave birth to their son. She would never have made it through the long nights of tears if not for Matt’s best friend, Paul. But as soon as she is able to stand on her own two feet again, Paul is gone, seemingly eager to rid himself of his obligations to his friend.
