Born a year apart, Connie and Samuel Johnson have always been close. Sam was by Connie’s side when she found out she had cancer at age twelve and again when she was diagnosed at age twenty-two. Then, at thirty-three, Connie was diagnosed with breast cancer, but this time it was different; this time she was told she would die.
As a young mum faced with her own death, Connie wanted to find some meaning in the chaos, and she knew just the way to do it. She would dare her brother to a one-wheeled odyssey around Australia. Together, they aimed to promote breast awareness, raise $1 million for research, and break the record for the longest distance travelled on a unicycle.
But Connie had a secret fourth aim: to fix Sam. And it worked. Sam cleared his diary, cleaned himself up and bravely kept his promise to his sister. Sam travelled more Han 15,000 kilometres across the country, raised over $1.8 million for cancer research, and spread a simple but vital message to all: ‘Don’t fall into the booby trap’.
