On April 4th 1968, a shot rang out in the Memphis sky bringing to a violent close the life of the Reverend Martin Luther King.
The youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, King brought the Civil Rights message to the attention of the world. In his tireless fight against racial injustice he travelled over six million miles and, despite the ever-increasing risk of assassination, made over twenty-five hundred public appearances. A brilliant orator, drawing huge crowds wherever he went, he is best remembered for the passion of his ‘I have a dream’ address, but his importance goes way beyond this. His tragic murder represents a low point in American history and with his death the world lost one of its most insane humane leaders.
