From the beginning of 1943 it became much more difficult to escape from Colditz. By now the German sentries had learned most of the tricks, and had grown more ruthless in dealing with those they caught. The Allied prisoners were forced to stretch their ingenuity to the limits, faking chronic medical complaints, digging ever deeper tunnels and even building a glider in the hope that they might fly out of the castle.

This incredible book is a tribute not only to the bravado, daring and skill of those who attempted escape in this time, but also to the endurance of those who were forced to stay incarcerated until the Americans liberated the POW camp in April 1945.
