International Art in the Collection of the National Gallery of Victoria is a rich survey of much-loved  and important works in Australia’s pre-eminent and oldest public art gallery. Since its foundation in 1861 the NGV has been collecting with ever-expanding scope, the finest examples of artistic achievement. The international art collection today comprises more than 38,000 works, from early Egypt and China to the present, and continues to grow reflecting the changing history of art patronage, taste and culture.
