Hawkesbury Shire Council commissioned this publication as a record of many of the historic buildings within its boundaries. This book not only looks at the origin of the buildings and who built them, but also the people who lived and worked in them, together with the events that shaped their lives.

Few areas in Australia have retained their links with the early colonists as has the Hawkesbury District. 

The granary of the first settlement at Sydney Cove, the Hawkesbury River flats remain much  the same today as when the first farmers built their slab huts along the river bank.
