Confessions of a Beachcomber is a misleading title as it is in reality an examination of the vegeatable, bird, sea life and Aborigines of Dunk Island off the Queensland coast, where E. J. Banfield settled with his wife between 1900 and 1923 after being diagnosed with tuberculosis.
