Fifty towns are represented in Reader’s Digest Book of Historic Australian Towns. Each has been chosen because of its historical significance- as convict settlement, port, goldfield town, commercial centre or agricultural and pastoral centre. The towns and buildings in them are records of social and economic conditions in the past and of the aspirations of the people who built them.
