It is 1962, Edward and Florence are a nervous young couple in a hotel room on the Dorset Coast with a view of Chesil Beach. It is their first night together as husband and wife. Both are college graduates and both are virgins. Edward and Florence both have private anxieties that neither can suppress nor communicate. Their first night ends in disaster after false assumptions and confusion brought upon by words not spoken.
