In 1938 the Sonderprojekte is established under the watchful eye of Adolf Hitler, aka The Collector, and Germany begins to ‘acquire’ the great artworks of Europe. Ernst Vogler is the art lover, a callow, idealistic twenty-four-year-old sent to Rome to return with a famous marble statue. It is a simple three-day job. But his Italian escorts have other ideas and Vogler is dragged into a dangerous adventure where he faces intrigue, betrayal, death and, most surprisingly, the possibility of love.
