When Dr Craig Bowman is served with a summons for medical malpractice, he is shocked, enraged and humiliated. Working continuously in the service of others, he has endured gruelling years of training before eventually becoming a partner in an exclusive medical practice. No longer having to deal with even more patients while inevitably giving less time to each one, he now provides the kind of medical care he is trained to do, lavishing twenty-four-hour personal attention on a limited number of handpicked clients. But this idyllic situation grinds to a halt one sunny afternoon…..and things are about to get much, much worse.
Under family pressures Dr Jack Stapleton, a medical examiner in New York City, agrees to travel to Boston to offer his forensic services and courtroom expertise to Bowman’s beleaguered defence attorney. But when Jack’s casual suggestion of exhuming the corpse is taken seriously, he merely opens up a Pandora’s box of further troubles. While Bowman’s reputation and career are put on the line, Jack is on the verge of making a most unwelcome discovery - one of tremendous medical and legal significance.
And there are people who will do anything to keep him from learning the truth.
