It was meant to be a lark. When sporting events effectively drew to a halt in March 2020, commentator Andrew Cotter was out of work. He turned to his Labrador retrievers, Olive and Mabel for inspiration.
The first competition was straightforward: Olive, Mabel, two bowls of food and the game was on. In classic sports broadcaster fashion, Cotter noted Olive’s style (focused, relentless, tasting absolutely nothing) and appreciated ‘the class’ with which Mabel accepted her defeat. The video went viral within minutes. It was the start of something wonderful - a bright spot in a tough year.
More videos followed, including Game of Bones, The Walk of Shame, The Company meeting and many more.
But before they became Internet stars, Olive and Mabel were simply two very good dogs, stellar companions to Cotter and his partner, Caroline. In this beautifully written, touching and laugh-out-loud book, Cotter shares stories of his adventures with his loveable (and occasionally exasperating) canine companions.
